I've been looking for a back-up brain for sometime now, and the latest version of Evernote is an interesting step along that road.

It's a notetaking application that mixes mobile, desktop and web tools to make sure that you can take notes anywhere, and synchronise them through one service. I've found it very useful over the last few days, and it works across my Windows and OS X machines, as well as through my Windows Mobile phone. I can take a note on the road, and it'll be on my desktop as soon as I get back. Clipping tools let me copy text from web pages straight to the web service too...

I've got nine eight seven beta invitations to give away. Ping me if you want one!

Desktop is Windows XP, Vista and OS X Leopard, and mobile is currently only Windows Mobile - Java and iPhone versions should be along soon...

First in 8?!

Good grief, no wonder membership is so high if people are coming out of the woodwork after that length of time.

It's a good convenient venue. We had quite a lot of folk there at Evolution (yikes, 12 years ago).

Was that the one with you and Mary on a panel about meeting people on teh Intawebs?

If so, then bellinghwoman and I were there, thinking 'hooray, someone else!'

(bellinghman@livejournal.com seems to work.)

(If they're thinking about Symbian, even better. Well, maybe one day.)

They ask if I use Linux on the request form.....hmmmmm
I'd like to try it out - are there any gotchas like

a) privacy
b) cost
c) size of notes (eg novel chapter sized notes?)

a) seems pretty secure
b) not sure yet
c) none yet!

I've been thinking for some time about the best way to share data across my laptop (MacOS 10.2.3), Ubuntu boxes - and MS Windows boxes on client sites. I was thinking of just a web dav mount but that requires me to be on line - and also has problems with having to remember what I have updated where.

So cvs or subversion is the next idea -

And then I think about how much work it would be for me to set it up :-(

If this works with an OS X desktop and a Windows Mobile phone/PDA and does the job more elegantly than the kludge that is Missingsync, then I shall PING you :)

Bugger WM and iPhone - does the Java version work on Symbian S60? If so, I'll have one, plizz! (-:

if he runs out I have ten, but then, in arithmetical progression, so do the other three people.
