If you look carefully, a lot of that is just damage to the thick layers of paint - they were seriously over-engineered, and the metal underneath is massively thick and the general condition isn't actually too bad. They replaced Bishop's Bridge a couple of years ago, but the reason wasn't corrosion - it was just inadequate for the traffic that used it.

Very cool photo, as have been a lot that you have uploaded recently. I somehow greatly enjoy the effect of water and ice on old, corroded items...
