You do know why a sign and law exist, yes? 'gators can move very fast, over 30 MPH for a short stretch, short defined as several hundred feet. They will grab you, twist you to break your bones then drag your body to the bottom of a canal or lake to let your body rot and tenderize itself.

So, If a person is stupid enough to attempt to feed an alligator and survive the law is there to pay for the cleanup.

Okay, let me understand this. People actually want to go to the water's edge and feed a creature that can kill you very quickly with its jaws of steel. Are they planning to offer themselves as dinner? And if so, how would Florida State fine and jail a corpse, if they can find it?

If they did not notice a corpse, the gator took care of it - yumm, dinner.
If they did find a heavily injured person who did not quite make it to Darwin award status, they get fined to help clean up the mess they made of the area.
