Not backing the bid?

Why not text PARIS to 82012?

(Or the name of any other city you want to be left paying for a multi-billion pound white elephant that'll make the Millennium Dome look like a bargain...)

Yes. I am annoyed that the propaganda set-up around the bid gives absolutely no scope for those who don't want London to host the Olympics to voice their opposition.

Not only do I not want the Olympics in London, but I have yet to encounter anyone who does.

Yup. And apparently we're unpatriotic or something for seeing the holes in the proposals.

Because the London bid will still get the money? I assume...

Why not text PARIS to 82012?

Because I like Paris. And I don't much like London.

New York, Madrid, Moscow?

Of course if London gets it, we'll all rent out our houses and come stay in Edinburgh for a month...

The thing with Paris is, the IOC wants Paris to have it, as it's the centenary of the death of the chap who founded the modern Olympics, so we might as well let them have fun...

Well, since there's no option given anywhere to text (for example) "not London" to the number, it was suggested (I think at http://hackthebid.org) that the actual text is ignored, and they just count the number of messages they get as supporters.

Yeah, I noticed that, but it worked last week, so I though I'd post it anyway.

Staff at DCMS were told that they had to put an "I'm backing the bid" line in their e-mail auto signatures. Not just those working in Sport policy, either. Most refused, I'm happy to say.

I have that on my sig at work. "[My employer] backs the bid". Doesn't say I do. (My current home sig says - or would if my PC still worked - "HST, 1937-2005. Res Ipsa Loquitor".)
