Tech gets everywhere...

We spent yesterday afternoon at Peter Jones attempting to construct our wedding list. Luckily the nice folk at the gift registry give you a little Palm-based scanner (in John Lewis green!)so you can wander around the store, and just scan the bar codes of the various items you want. The hand-held software allows you to see related items, so you can quickly set up lists of various patterns and designs, or see what else might be available.

Nifty.

My suggestion would be to add more stuff than you expect to get in each price range. My niece did a list for her forthcoming wedding, I wanted to spend about 100 quid on it and ended up buying several saucepans. That's all well and good, but now there's not a huge amount of stuff left on the list in the 20-30 quid range for other people to buy.

we're doing a fairly small list in the traditional style because we're also giving people the option of sponsoring our honeymoon trip - they pick a place in New Zealand, we go there and take pictures and send postcards and come back and tell them all about it...

That IS a neat idea. I want one for my grocery stores (there are 3 we hit in the course of our shopping), so that I can input once, and easily.

That is definitely an extremely civilised use of technology.
