Separated at birth?

My regular trains seem to have had some unholy design collision with a US low-cost airline, as both their new liveries seem to have come from the same design school...

What is it with the purpley-blue and reddish orange? And why is it just a little too hard on the eye at dark o'clock in the morning?

Blue and orange are opposite each other on a colour wheel, which means they contrast strongly. That's very vivid as design choices go.
