We'd walked down The Strip to the Bellagio, another of the theme resorts, where we'd booked a table at its Picasso restaurant. Like many of jonhoneyball's dining suggestions over the years, this one was another hit. A subtle and tasteful place (yes, in Vegas!), Picasso sits by the Bellagio's lake. While you eat, the lake's dancing fountains leave bright patterns in the night sky, a new constellation of water and light. The restaurant walls are lined with original Picassos, from sketches and ceramics, to huge canvases.
We ate from the chef's tasting menu, a selection of dishes and wines...
Being a rude tourist, I asked for a copy of the menu...
Jonah Crab Salad, with apple-champagne vinaigrette.
2002 Leeuwin Estate, Art Series, Riesling, Margaret River, Australia
Roasted U-10 Day Boat Scallops, with potatoes mouselline and jus de veau.
2000 Domaines Schumberger, les Princes Abbes, Pinot Gris, Alsace
Roasted Steak de Foie Gras, with poached apples, port braised rhubard and covered in rosted pistachios.
2000 Maculan, Torcolato, Bregenze, Veneto
Aged Lamb Roti, with crust of truffles, parmesan potatoes and au jus.
2001 A. Fernandez, Codado de Haza, Ribera del Duero
Mmmm... Wonderful food and wines.
Walking back we watched the volcano erupt outside the Mirage. A surreal end to the day...
