So how do you think?

I've been wondering how different people think. I'm aware of the difference between visual and non-visual thinkers, and wondered how you all look at the world. So I decided the most scientific way of finding out was a LJ poll.

Poll #221296 How do you think?

Do you think...

...in words?
29(51.8%)
...in pictures?
6(10.7%)
...other (please fill in box)?
21(37.5%)

Other?

Are you the narrator of your thoughts?

Yes
41(73.2%)
No
3(5.4%)
Other
12(21.4%)

Other?

Do you hear music...

...in your voice?
7(12.7%)
...as if it was a recording?
30(54.5%)
...other?
18(32.7%)

Other?

And finally...

Oooh! Clicky thing!
46(100.0%)

And if you're wondering, I think in words, hear myself as the "narrator", music changes as to whether I'm "singing" it or not.

Oh, and "Oooh! Clicky thing!"

I'm always singing along to the music.

I think I think in spaces, areas, nothing so definable as pictures. The narration merely justifies. The narration is cacophonous, being at least two arguing voices if not more, taking on differing roles, including those of real people, although never in anything other than my voice. As for music: if I've heard a recording, or a live performance, it'll come back like that on the earworm. Stuff I've played or sung myself comes back as generic wind instrument, I guess, because most of my music playing has been on woodwind. The second channel of the earworm, running the poetry channel, is in my voice again. It's a simultaneous broadcast with the musical strand.

Ah yes, that describes my "thinking in pictures" better, too. Not so much a bitmap as, umm, the name for structured drawings which I can't think of at the moment... (Which perhaps explains why I don't think in words...;)

The way I think is all movement and shape and gestalt. [Unknown LJ tag] has described it as multi-dimensional Tetris. Yeah like that. And touch is very important too.

It's also definitely 3D, which makes things even harder to explain. Words defintely get added later and I suppose visual stuff too--all of which seems like a gloss on the original "shape".

And speaking of today's Dilbert... :)

A mixture - think in words, and in pictures in times, in a combination (visually moving words around), in emotions or as two slightly different arguing points of view (no, I'm not schizophrenic - it's just a useful way of visualising it sometimes). Other times, it's just a 'cloud' and things pop out without any real visualisation.

Songs are generally as recordings, but I dont tend to have songs running through my head.

Something I read recently (can't recall what) mentioned a word that means "the domain of your question is too narrow/inappropriate for an answer to be meaningful".

Music (if it affects me at all) isn't something I hear, for example.

and the space allotted for the answer, too small!

I think in words, sounds, images, music, memory, more, and often in word-less concepts.
For the past few hours, I've been especially auditory-oriented, but I appear *g* to be moving into a visual phase now.
