The Templar Matrix

Does anyone else see elements of various Knight Templar/Freemasonry mythos in there?

Especially in the role of the Architect, the idea of the Source, and of the appearance of the Merovingian as the keeper of secrets. Then there's Neo as the apprentice who dies because of his work, the last stand at the gates of the Temple (and, of course, the name of Zion itself). The climactic scenes have something of a brazen head about them, too...

It's all straight out of The Holy Blood and The Holy Grail and the Rennes-le-Château mysteries...

There's a lot of Grail/Orthodox iconography as well; nicely done :)

I did suggest earlier this year that the name of the Merovingian had been lifted from the Holy Grail/Holy Bood nonsense. But I thought the possibilities opened up by The Matrix Reloaded were largely wasted: too much CGI thud-and-blunder, not enough (in fact, not any) exploration of the idea that Zion itself might have been another virtuality.

interesting to have the keeper of secrets and descendant of holiness so utterly corrupt then ;-)
