Wi Fi on the beach...

...in sunny Brighton. Time to hope on a train and soak up the bandwidth along with the rays?

The service, called PiertoPier, is being offered free to anyone who has the right gear and relies on volunteers and donations to keep it alive.

Mind you, I have it on the roof here in Putney, so it's WiFi in the rain today!

Sun still blazing here in N Yorks. Snicker. Even if I had WiFi I wouldn't be able to read my screen.

I am in what is allegidly a T-Mobile Hotspot, only it isn't, at not as far as my 802.11b card can detect. However, I managed to work out how to get my phone to connect via IRdA and GPRS.

Actually quite zippy. Although there lies a story! I'll tell Simon one day off the record about GPRS stack build quality.

Anyway, its peeing down and damn hot in London as I wait for a meeting!

Anybody know how to disable ActiveSync so I can use the USB cable? Or is that yet another Redmond enabled "feature"?

Are you using a Tanager or another MS Smartphone?

If you are, then you can be the first beneficiary of the Smartphone Tricks and Ti[ps feature I wrote at the weekend, or at least the research for it.

You need this page:

Haven't popped down to try this out yet, or the T-Mobile hotspot in Starbucks.

The Sussex Mac User Group is contemplating using one of the wi-fi enabled locations as it's new meeting venue, which would be rather spiffy.

If you do decide to make the trip, let me know and I'll pop down too.
