Long day yesterday

Yesterday was one of those days that you need two or three to recover from...

I got up at 5 am to drive to the airport. I needed to check in by 6.30 for my flight up to Newcastle, for a client meeting. Unfortunately, Heathrow being the way it is, the cheapest parking is all well away from the terminals, and you need to allow plenty of time for the buses to the terminal. So 6.15 am and I'm on a bus full of zombies in business suits.

The meeting itself wasn't too bad. One of the more fun parts of consultancy is doing what I think of as the "client mind meld". You need to understand exactly what they are thinking, as well as trying to capture as much information about their problems and issues. It's all part of trying to give them not just any answer, but the right answer. In this case it lead to a day in a meeting room drawing on white boards and some quite fascinating technical discussions.

We were originally booked back on the last plane, but luckily our wait listing on the end of the afternoon flight paid off, so we were back in London in time for dinner...

Or in my case, time to find my way to glamorous Sydenham for an evening's gaming. It's been a long time since I was a player, and all in all, a fun evening. A good bunch of folk and an interesting set of issues. I took on a temporary player character last night, as I arrived late. The GM and I will sort out a permanent character over the next week - he's already got some ideas which I rather like...

The "so bad it's good" books

The only way to survive the tube is a book. And so, at Eastercon I picked up a pile of cheap books from the Talking Dead stall. Most were good, but the one I'm reading at the moment is skirting the edges of dire with a sense of vertigo. I'm not sure when it will tumble in, but it's not looking good.

Unfortunately, I'm going to have to carry on reading it, too.
