...was this. The Paris Night Skate is 5,000 or so roller bladers blasting down the river side streets of the city. We came across them while walking to the Metro, when we saw a couple of police motorcycles stopping traffic. Then they came, an endless stream of bladers, flashing lights in their wheels and on their clothes, rushing though the warm dark of a spring Paris night. In and around them skated the police bladers, with their uniform helmets. It must have taken 10 or so minutes for the stragglers to pass where we were standing.

An amazing sight...

"Bladers... Bleedin' thahsends of 'em"

Wow! 5,000 is nearly an SECCful. I've seen three or four hundred shoot round a corner into Shaftesbury Avenue of an evening last summer, but 5k? It's like film of some urban Serengeti before gunpowder...

And it's peaked at 23K skaters, which is a worrying amount. But yes, the image of UK Worldcon skating past me is now one indelibly burnt into my neural pathways...

You are evil. Heh.

Ha! That'd take the talents of a frostfox to do justice to. On the other hand, I'm reminded of Dave Carson, who did a bunch of Cthulhu mythos t-shirts back in the eighties, being asked if he was doing a Shub-Niggurath one and replying <accent type="norn-iron">D'ye think I've the time to draw in a thousand friggin' young?</accent>...

they just kept coming; it was as if there would never be cars down the road again, just an endless succession of bladers - and at the end one skateboarder, two scooters and a bicycle!
