So how rare are you?

Try this site to find out...

"There are 2 people with the name Simon Bisson. You are rarer than a wombats wing nut."

"There are 551 people with the name Bisson. You are like a rare bird, Lost and pecking at nuts."

What do the authors of YourNotMe have about nuts? Alongside their lousy grammar...

(updated to note that they know about the grammar already, and possibly may well have a sense of humour: "Because it's Grammatically Incorrect")

But are you really a Mike? Because... There are 128 People with the name Michael Whitaker. More people probably die poking spoons into the back of their PC's every year than there are of you.

There is 1 Person with the name Angela Rosin.
This name is unique like a yeti or some form of Magic Chimp.

(There are 75 other Rosin's)

Same here. I'm the Only One. Yay!

About 80 other Provens, though, which surprises me...

If your not on it at all, don’t cry...
No, I'm crying at something else...
No data other than Forename’s and Surname’s are on this site.
Yeah, and that.

Appalling.

There are 43 People with the name Carl Read. You are rarer than a wombats wing nut.

There are 23726 People with the name Read. There are a few of you lot. Oh look there's another Read over there, and another one. 10p for a cup of coffee? Okay but don't spend it on Special Brew.

They also have a "last 30 searches" list which updates every 15 seconds. Going by that it seems they're getting at least 30 searches every 15 seconds, since all the names seem to change with each update.

Names? Hah!
I got:

"That name doesn't exist. Are you secret service? Don't hurt me I've seen Enemy of the State."

So that's me told, then.

Data Protection Act
You know what these guys are doing is strictly illegal?

They're looting the Electoral Register. That's a big bad no-no under UK law, and the Data Protection Commissioner will come down on them like a ton of bricks if anyone complains. (As I am informed has already happened. Oops.)

Re: Data Protection Act
It is legal to buy and use the Electoral Roll for various purposes (usually name/address validation for which it is of course Not Perfect but Good Enough). IMO it's borderline whether yournotme's use of the data (if they legitimately purchased it) invades anyone's privacy, as it is a simple of count of names and does not provide information that uniquely identifies an individual (commonly this would mean a name + address).

Except of course if your name is unique on the electoral roll. Or is that your concern, Mr Stross (or are you some kind of Super Chimp?)

I got: "That name doesn't exist. Are you secret service? Don't hurt me I've seen Enemy of the State."

But then I'm not on the electoral register.

I also got
"That name doesn't exist. Are you secret service?
Don't hurt me I've seen Enemy of the State."

But of course I'm not on the UK electoral register. It does admit to having 23 Rosenzweigs, which still gets the "wombats wing nut" message.
