Project X: Update.

I've created a closed community, mmsbeta, for test messages and the like.

Implementation decisions have been made as follows: I will be developing the gateway in C#, and will be using a POP3 interface to the mail server. All configuration files will be XML. I may implement IMAP as well, but as the application is intended to be portable POP3 seems to be a better initial target - also it's relatively easy to scan a mailbox for known headers and extract using POP3.

Very very stupid person here. Speak slow-ly.

Is idea that we 'll be able to down load and upload LJ posts as if they were email from our SPVs? hence the POP/IMP ref??

Just upload. The idea is for you to be able to send an MMS to a specific email address, whereupon the text and any photos become an LJ posting.

Future proof?

Reckon this is a great idea. Just need to get that MMS phone...

Is the project X mail parser going to be intelligent (e.g know the attachment is a jpeg) or dumb (just create hyperlinks in lj post to all attachments and drop them in ftp site)? I'm thinking specifically of the next update of MMS due later this year, which is going to deliver video (I believe AVI and/or MP4 are current front runners for externally presented format).

BTW - mind if I add you?

Re: Future proof?
I'm intending to be as attachment neutral as possible - the intention is to use an XML config file to indicate supported file types, so Gateway admins will be able to configure their systems appropriately.

(And feel free to add me!)
