Moblogging the snow

I bought myself an Orange SPV smartphone yesterday, which came with a camera attachment. As an experiment I took a photo of one of the Regency squares near the office, and sent it to one of my email addresses via MMS. I was rather surprised when it actually worked...

Blimey, that's very good quality for something that's just a part of a mobile phone. I am impressed.

Guess you're just waiting for a LJ client for Smartphone before you can txt in blog entries, with photos, on the move. Exciting!

I bought it too!! (And was up till 2am playing with it!!) But can't get the email to work yet - should the outgoing client be my normal outgoing client (ie an edacuk server or should it be orange's server?)

Also when I try to write in an email address it sticks to number format on the keys and won't seem to change to letters - any ideas??

My main problem, which I knew about in advance, is that Orange won't read the numbers off my old T Mobile SIM card - I read a review in which someone got round this by porting in his data from Outlook EXpress - I have OE on PC but don't keep phone numbers on it so that doesn't help with double keying!! Any ideas? Any way I can "beam" the no.s from existing Nokia phone? (It does have IR.)

Thanks!!!!!

Are you using T9 or standard keypresses? If you're stuck in T9 hold down "*" to switch to keypresses (it'll display "ABC" on the screen). You can change the case by just a quick press on "*". That all seems to work for me...

You should be able to beam numbers between the two phones, as they both use the same infrared standard. I have to admit that I haven't tried it yet with the SPV, but it did work between Nokia phone and my Pocket PC PDA, and they use the same OS. Both the Nokia and the SPV will use the standard VCF format for address cards, so copying them in should work just fine once you've done the beaming...

But you'd have to beam them in one by one yeh?

No, I don't understand, it's like it doesn't believe |I'm trying to send an email not a txt message. If I select MMS rather than Message in InBox does that limit me to phone nos? I can select an email address from contacts but not apparently write one straight in. No problem when actually putting txt into messages.

Ah, is this the MMS application we're talking about?

Just hold down "*" until the indicator in the top left of the screen changes to the format you want to use (options are "123" for numbers, "t9" for T9, and "ABC" for pressing all the buttons...).

It seems to work - and I've just tested it by sending you a picture...

I have to admit that I've still not tried this bit. I was thinking of attempting to use the Microsoft mobile extensions on my Exchange server...

It works, it works!!! You *do* just use your usual incoming server (with authntication as necc) and orange as the outgoing server - I had mistyped mine in first time that's why it didn't work :-) I SCREAMED when mine started downloading. (And if yours is an IMP server you get this neat option to only download today's mail.)

I sent myself a piccie as an MMS as well - YAY!!!!! (Where do you keep the little camera? It doesn't fit in the cute wallet.)
