Airplanes to go

There's a spot in the middle of the high Arizona desert full of obsolete bombers and fighter jets. It's a place someday I'd love to see, all that truly superfluous technology left out to rot, the Cold War chilling out at altitude, in the dry dry heat.

But at least I can see it from above, thanks to the Terraserver database of satellite and aerial photographs.

It gives me visions of the classic disaster-movie scenario in which thousands of civilian pilots are drafted and put at the controls of these bombers in a last-ditch effort to avert... something or other...

Someone should sneak in, put in an automatic take off system and a remote control, and then we could make them all take off, one after the other...

Tempted to emulate parts of it as an embroidery. Fly stitch for the little planes?
