So we go to the desert before the event, to bask in silence and emptiness before the crush and the rush.
This year we spent a couple of days in Zion, one of our favourite National Parks. It's only a couple of hours north of Vegas, a deep canyon carved into the steep edge of the Colorado Plateau. Limestone mountains rise high above the desert, pinnacles and mesas surrounding the cool, fertile canyon. A switch back road rises high above the canyon floor, diving into a tunnel to twist and turn through the slot canyons of the high desert. There the rock is eroded, carved and routed into intricate sculptures of stone and light by the wind and dust.
